About Waipahu Boxing Gym
Our Gym History
Waipahu Boxing Club was established in the 1940’s when Coach Al “Quick” Silva opened the gym to hawaii youth to get the kids off the street and into the sport of boxing. After several World Champions (Jesus Salud, Andy Ganigan and Brian Viloria had their start here) Silva continued coaching at Waipahu Boxing up until his passing at age 94. 6 years prior to that, he selected Keoni Adric as his successor, teaching him day in and day out, all he learned from his 70+ years of coaching. Coach Silva was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 2009 for his contributions to the sport of boxing. Coach Keoni continues his legacy today at the Waipahu Boxing Club.
